Malaysia's Lee Chong Wei will make his way up through the qualifiers aiming for an unprecedented sixth Yonex Open Japan crown. Meanwhile, local Japanese shuttler Kenichi Tago will aim to be the first Japanese player to win the men's singles title at YONEX OPEN JAPAN.

Wednesday, September 9th: Round 1
Japanese shuttlers look to earn titles on their home soil. Women's doubles pair Ayaka Takahashi and Misaki Matsutomo have their eyes on becoming the first Japanese pair to earn consecutive titles at this tournament, stepping on the court from the morning session. The afternoon session will see Akane Yamaguchi aim for her second YONEX OPEN JAPAN title in women's singles.
Other local players to keep an eye on include Kento Momota, who recently won Japan's fist bronze medal in men's singles at the BWF World Championships. Japanese doubles aces Kenichi Hayakawa and Hiroyuki Endo will also prove their skills on the court. Overseas competitors include China's Lin Dan, holder of several huge titles throughout his illustrious career. And last but not least, Carolina Marin of Spain looks to dominate the court coming off of her second consecutive BWF World Championships win.
